Nursery Schools

Child at a Nursery SchoolNursery Schools offer care for preschool children and are not attached to schools. They offer places generally for around 20 to 25 children. The hours are mostly a school length day and some offer sessional care.

Nursery schools can be privately owned or state owned although there are few that are run by non profit organisations. All nursery schools have to registered with a regulatory body and are inspected regularly.
Nursery schools will follow an early years curriculum and at least one member of staff should have an early years teaching qualification.

Fees are subject to the early years entitlement but some will require a top up from parents. A private nursery can cost up to £1000 a term depending on days attended and the area the nursery school is in.
